Reader Request: Pimple Alert!

It's been a minute since I posted a reader question on here, but this one I felt I should for some reason. Maybe, because I feel that this time of year the pimple posse can roll up on anybody's face!

I don't have bad skin at all, but  I occasionally get one or two here and there. Are there any products that can get rid of a pimple in virtually no time without having to put it on my whole face, if that's possible?~Natalia

Well, Natalia, one skincare product that I absolutely love are acne spot treatments. Since I don't have the best skin, breakouts tend to greet me more than every now and then. Just as easily as they appear, I want them to easily GO AWAY! Before I introduced myself to acne spot treatments, I just use to dab toothpaste overnight on the unwanted bastard and woke up to a much smaller version of it, which I learned about in the pilot episode of Moesha. Anyway, the older you get the tougher it gets to get rid of a pimple and that means toothpaste can't get it. Here are some acne spot treatments  that I have used and have great respect for and hopefully so will you!

Clinique Acne Solutions Spot Healing Gel($12.50): This is the first spot treatment I have ever tried and I guess that it holds a special place in my heart, because I always buy two of these at a time. Depending on the size, it can kill a zit in a night! The consistency of it very light and invisible, so it is easy to wear under make-up all day. Here is a note: Make sure that you skin is well moisturized when wearing it under make-up, because it will dry and flake up on dry skin even with hydrated make-up.

Mario Badescu Drying Lotion ($17): Mario Badescu makes some of the best skincare products with a loyal following by many celebs. One of my favorite products is their Drying Lotion. Its very smooth and calming to the skin and almost erases whitehead pimples overnight. Unfortunately, the this only works on pimples that have risen to the surface. However, if the pimple is under the skin, then Mario & Co. have another product for you:

Mario Badescu Drying Cream($10): This is to help dry up and heal under the surface pimples. However, I mostly use it to help heal pimples that have already popped and/or drying up my skin around it. That is never a good look! A good about this is that since it is VERY creamy it can also be used under make-up without being evident.

Boscia Willow Bark Breakout Treatment($22.50): This spot treament is just like the previous ones I mentioned, however, this one is much lighter and would be the ideal one if you have sensitive skin. I use this on the those little itsy bitsy bumps that rarely show up. Bonus, this smells lovely than the others. Also, to get the best overall look follow it with your favorite moisturizer; day and night!

I hope these help you Natalia!

BET AWARDS 07: The Worst...to me!

I was very disappointed in Eve, because as of recently she had been killing it with her fashion choices. However, this dress from Dolce's animalistic line is not the best look for her. She should have went with a solid color dress, because most prints would clash with her super bright platinum hair. Hmmm, not that I have another look at it, it might not have been so bad if the dress wasn't trimmed in gold! I love those L.A.M.B shoes, though! Also, I love the dress she wore when she performed with Kelly!

Vivica Fox was trying too hard to prove she's still sexy and she or anyone does that it comes off as awful and slutty. She is showing too much on top. Is she would have just worn a solid dress in this same material without the embellished front would have been sexier!

The fashion at this year's BET awards were shiny and metallic and just enough animal print to make a girl tired of it! Great show and perfomances, though!

BET Awards 07: Rihanna

Now you know I couldn't do an awards post without mentioning the "IT" girl of the moment Rihanna. I usually don't like white dresses that could easily be used as a wedding dress, but for some reason I am really feeling this dress! Its simple, but its not..you know? She kept everything to a minimum, including jewelry and her almost flawless make-up! Still loving her bob! I have always been afraid to get a bob, because I feel that it is very limited in stylin, but she is proving your girl wrong!

BET Awards 07: Ciara

I wasn't feeling Ciara look at all! She should have went with something colorful, but I can't really remember her wearing something colorful on a red carpet. She usually sticks with neutrals and she should definitely step away from that every now and then. Plus, there was WAY too much back and side out. I know she doesn't have much on top, but this dress only helped emphasize that!

I like, not love, the Alexander McQueen shoes. I might like them a little more without that clear, plastic strap over the instep. They might have also looked a little better with a different dress.

On the other hand, I do love her bob. I think she looks better with shorter hair, than that incredibly long weave! I hope she keeps this for a minute!

BET Awards 07: DC3

I loved ALL three of those dresses! They looked fabolous! I'm not going to front, I will always be a DC fan.

Loved the dress and the jewelry...the shoes are another question. Cute shoes, but not with that dress! She should have went with a silver strappy number. She still looked great. It was nice to see her showing some of her legs!

Seriously, that dress looks incredible! The shoes, the bag, the jewelry all look perfect together. Twork it Ms. Kelly!

Leave it to Bee to come out in Diva form wearing a super heavy, sparkling Dolce dress that she could barely walk in, but still look great. One of best friends from college, Danielle, was one the publicists there for XM radio and she told me that it was CRAZY hot, so I know she had to been burning up!

Although they came together as a group, they did not appear as a group on the red carpet. They looked like individual artists/friends posing together. Gotta love that!

BET Awards 07: My 2 cents!

Since I can't sleep, I guess I will go ahead and give my critique of this years BET awards. I will admit this that the first BET awards back in 2001 had a sister worried about uncertain future of a annual water downed and cheap looking award show. However, since they moved it to LA instead of Las Vegas it has gotten better.

The best part about the BET awards compared to other awards are the tributes. They are so moving and nostalgic. The Gerald Levert one; AMAZING! Teary eyes. I do wish the Diana Ross tribute was a little longer, because she had way too many hits for the tribute to squashed down to just 3 or 4 songs. Either way it was good and it was lovely to see and hear such a humbling speech from "The Boss" "The Original Diva": Ms. Ross! However, I loss a $5 bet with my neighbor, because I just KNEW Beyonce was going to be a surprised performance in that tribute. Unfortunately, she wasn't. That would have been hot and perfect, though!!

The other performances I found myself flipping briefly to other channels through them, but they were still good. The performance that really had a sista about to chunk her super heavy Directtv remote at the screen was the Beyonce/DC3/Kelly Rowland performance. Don't get it twisted, the Beyonce performance was pretty hot, but I did miss her intro but thank goodness for YouTube. The part that really ticked me off was the afterthought-esque performance from Kelly. When I heard she was going to perform I was happy that she was FINALLY going to get her solo shine on. Big disappointment.

Instead it seemed her "performance" was thrown in. She NEEDS her solo shine, Music World/Columbia!!!

Fashion tommorrow.

Dresses to Impress: Denim Dresses

Sorry for no post yesterday...something came up. When I saw "something" I mean a work deadline and my level of stress.

Anyway, that means I am going to do TWO dress post. The first one is a dress style that I have never really embraced...Denim Dresses. I have never been a fan of anything denim other than jeans, skirts, and shorts. However, I am not going to lie, there is a denim button down, 3/4 sleeve shirt that I bought on a whim. I thought it would hot with some bright red twill pants. It did, but I only wore it twice.

Denim dresses on the other hand I have NEVER bought one. They always seemed to look so plain and boring. However, over the past years the style of denim dresses are improving and looking more stylish than ever. Even some of the most popular contempary and denim deigners have released a denim dress here and there. I have collected a couple of denim dresses that are REALLY making me want a denim dress this summer!

FIRST ROW: 7 for All Mankind Apron Dress, $195, Saks; Hudson Aurora Mini Dress, $99, 80s Purple; Citizens of Humanity 'Peretti' Dress, $194, Nordstrom

SECOND ROW: Issac MIzrahi for Target Strapless Denim Dress, $39.99, Target; Juicy Couture Shirred Babydoll Dress, $228, Nordstrom; Belted Denim Strapless Dress, $54.50, Lane Bryant

Celeb v. Runway: Jennifer Lopez

Last night Jennifer Lopez attended Lorraine Schwartz's jewelry launch wearing this fabolous cream jumper by Albino. She looked absolutely gorgeous accessorizing it with a gaggle of gold bangles, small clutch, and platforms. To me, Jennifer makes the jumper. If I would have just seen it as worn on the runway, I wouldn't have been as in lust for it as I was when I saw in it on Jennifer. She made it hers, which is what everyone should do with clothes!

Another. Celeb. Perfume.

Just in case that butterfly as a cap doesn't it give it away, this is the perfume M by Mariah Carey. The scents of everything from marshmellow, gardenia, amber, and morracan incense are wrangled into this debut perfume of the eight octave diva.

The prices range from $38 for a 1oz. bottle to $50 for 3.3 oz.. Also there will be a $28 body lotion, too, for M by Mariah Carey. The line is license with cosmetic and perfume license company extrodinaire Elizabeth Arden.

It doesn't matter that Mariah is the 1.4 billionth celeb to introduce a frangrance, its still gonna make her a nice little bulge in her bank account. I'm not about to tell a little fib, I can't wait to see what marshmellow and morracan incense smell like together!

Yay or Nay: Festive Fingers!

For some reason, that title is feels a little "dirty", but let's move on.

4th of July Art Pen Kit, $19.95, Nubar

I  really dislike when people carry  their love of holidays into their closets. I remember in elementary school, my 5th grade teacher Mrs. English had a festive shirt/sweater/sweatshirt for every holiday. In December she wore a Christmas theme shirt for everyday of the month!

I just never really like festive dressing for holidays except with the exception of the 4th of July. I even limit that to just wearing red, white, and blue and a minimum of one small to medium size flag. However, nails that express your love of 4th of July maybe a little too much. I guess I'm not surprised I wouldn't rock this, because I use to and still do flare my nostrils at airbrush on nails. That's just me, but what about you? Would you ever feel this festive to paint your nails with 4th of July artwork?

Happy Father's Day!

I know more than likely no fathers and dads visit this site unless they accidently clicked on it in their history address bar which was left by their daughters and/or wife. However, I do want to wish everyone a Happy Father's Day.

Almost everyone has a father, but not everyone has a dad that supports them unconditionally. That is especially true now a days when not that people can claim about having a great dad, especially women of color.  I have a great dad and unfortunately I didn't realize that until I was an adult. He has and will always be there for me and I'm positive in saying and believing that. Its almost considered a luxury to have a strong man to help guide you into your adult life.

You know how they say "Only a man can teach how to be a man". Well, I think that can be applied to not only boys, but girls. If you have a great father who is equally a great man, then you will most likely learn and know what type of man you want as a husband! Just my opinion!

Happy Father's Day and...

Tagged....Again!

Oy Vey! Tags always slowly kick me in the gut with nervousness. I always think I have spilled everything there is to know about me, but then I am force to think harder than I would like to and come up with "new" stuff to admit PLUS thinking of other people to tag!!

The rules are somewhat simple, post 7 random things about you and then tag 7 other bloggers to do the same. Leave a comment with them to let them know that they have been tagged and to do the same. Basically. Well, here goes! Thanx Kia and Mix Maven !

1.) I am fascinated with shows that tell about real accounts with paranormal experiences and psychics. I guess that is derived from my love of horror movies. My favorite show as of recently is a show that comes on the Discovery Channel called A Haunting. Fabolously spooky! I have my DVR record every episode, just in case I am not home! Also, any show that tells stories of real psychic cases. I do believe in paranormal and if you ask me I will tell you about this small experience that I had years and years ago that spooked me out for long time and really made me believe in that stuff.

2.) I don't think I every want to get married and/or have children. I use to say never, but as of a couple of years ago I decided to leave the possibility open, because you never know who or what can change your mind and opinions on anything including marriage and children. I was never that little girl who dreamed about finding "Mr. Right", getting married, and settling down and squeezing out a few kids. Personally, I aspire to find the right shade of red patent pumps that are fierce and equally comfortable enough for me to do a nice sprint around the block way before finding a husband! That's just me!

3.) I use to suck my thumb as a child. For the first four years of my life I use to suck my thumb to the point that it caused my teeth to slightly gap. Braces were my life! How did I stop? Well, a family friend once told me that if I continue to suck my thumb that my teeth would stick WWAAAYYY out my mouth! I was only four, so that freaked me out and I stopped sucking my thumb! This is the same family friend that also scared me out of sleep walking. Another story for another tag.

4.) I bit my nails until I was 24....and I am 25 now! I think it was genetics. My dad bites his nails and so does my brother. My dad use to buy all types of gimics for the three us to try to quit, such as a clear polish-esque solution you swipe across your nails that tasted like spicy, hot pickles. The flavor died out after a couple of hours and that left nothing but time for me to bit down to the cuticle. Nothing ever worked. I use to be SO envious of my mother's and my stepmother's nails, because they were so naturally long and healthy. This past summer, I was so busy over a stretch of a couple of weeks and I noticed that my nails, my left index nail to be exact, was longer than it had ever been. So, somehow that kind of motivated me to continue to not bite them. Now my nails are about half a inch past my fingertips! Way to go, Samida!!!

5.) I grind my teeth. I didn't realize I what I was doing was grinding them. I just assumed that I was applying a little pressure to help me shut my mouth. I still grind them though! sshhh, don't tell my dentist.

6.) I am half Liberian. My dad is from Liberia and my mom is Mexican-American...I'm very diverse! I dare anyone to pronounce my last name if they read it!

7.) I HATE rules! I have always been a rule follower. I don't know about ya'll, but I'm too fly for the pokey! No moisturizer? Count a sista out! Howevre, that changes everynow and then when something like being tagged with specific rules fall at my two day old pedicured feet. Therefore, on  that note, I am gonna have to get back to you on who I am gonna tag. Miss Kia tagged people I had planned on tagging myself and don't want to have to trouble them any more than they probably want to (Hiya, Traci)!! It won't be 7 people, probably just two or three.  I'll try an be back tommorrow with the choosen ones!

Is it the Chuck?

Dolce & Gabanna Quilted Patent Leather Sneaker, $295, Neiman Marcus

Please tell me that by now you all know that I LOVE, LUST, and WORSHIP Converse's Chuck Taylors. Whenever I see a pair, new or old, I instantly light up and become so giddy and happy! I never could identify if it was the shape or style that did it for me.

When I saw that these Converse-esque shoes by Dolce, for some reason they didn't do it for  me. I mean, they look like they are just missing the converse tag on the back of the sole. Also, they are by Dolce & Gabanna and patent leather and quilted; all things I love in fashion! I am at a lost.

Why don't I light up for these damn near identical Chucks??!?!? What has Chuck Taylor done to me?

Orange the New Yellow?

It was just last month when everyone was snatching up everything yellow, because that was the 'it' color. In the past couple of months, I have collected a number of yellow pieces, especially yellow dresses. Now, yellow is slowly drifting into the past and orange is taking its place.

Orange is like yellow in the sense that you have to find the right shade that compliments your skin tone. Everyone can't wear every shade of yellow, just like everyone can't wear every shade of orange.

Here are a couple of orange dresses that you could add to your closet! Pair them with gold accessories and you are set, chicas!

REVIEW: Ambi Even & Clear Exfoliating Wash

Ever since I was 15, I occasionally buy and try Ambi products every now and then to help me deal with my diabolical acne prone skin. That equals up to a decade just in case I give a pop quiz later! Anyway, when I was wandering down the dangerous beauty aisle at Wal-mart a couple of weeks ago I decided to try Ambi's Even & Clear Exfoliating Wash. I thought what the hell, I have had very good results using their  products over the years so what could I loose?!

I must say that once again Ambi hasn't let me down. The first that I noticed about the was is the smell. The smell was vaguely familiar and it took me a couple of days to figure it out and then it hit me...Escada's Ibiza Hippie Perfume! A perfume that smells very good with a floral and fruity scent, which means while I was washing my face I didn't have to deal with the usual medicated scent that most acne face washes.

The texture of the wash is a thick creamy texture minimal scrub mixture. As I washed my face with it, it felt very heavy. Plus, if you are expecting foam or lather, keep looking. It almost feels like rubbing a night cream on your face, but that really didn't bother me much. To lessen the heaviness, I just added water to the mixture and that made a feel a LOT less heavy my face.

One thing that DID bothered me was the after feel. After I gave my face a very thorough rinsing off, 8 times to be exact, my face still felt just a slight touch of residue..nothing too major!

FINAL RESULTS...After two weeks of using this wash, I and everyone else I see frequently noticed that my face had cleared up considerably and my tone has evened up incredibly, which I LUV!!! I definitely recommend this product if you are looking for a exfoliating face wash to help clear up your acne and even out your complexion. I give this 4.5/5 diamond encrusted stars! I took .5 off for that slight residue, but if it continues to make my skin look and feel radiant on a daily basis then that residue can stay on all it wants!!

Rihanna's Latest Re-Invention

When most artist release a new album, they also try to re-invent themselves and their images in particular. Well, Rihanna has decided to "adjust" her style in conjunction with the release of her new album Good Girl Gone Bad. On a side note, LOUDLY singing 'Umbrella' has become one of my guiltiest pleasures! Umbrella-ella-ella.. Yeah, yeah.

Anyway, when she first cut her hair in a bob I was all in love with it, because she was doing the opposite of everyone else. Seriously, how many long, blonde hair regardless of race R&B and Pop singers can we have polluting our culture?! So, it was refreshing to see her do something so fiercely different! However, the re-invention didn't stop at her hair.

Her current style of punk rocker meets gothic princess meets thuggish ballerina meets pimpish dominatrix is not really sitting well with alot of the fashion obsessed, including yours truly. There are some elements I like here and there, but when you see them all in front of you via my lovely little collage above her style seems to be all over the place. What do you think?

Might I add that all the above pictures were taken within a week, last week to be exact! Also, all of stage outfits have been designed by Dolce & Gabanna. I'm sure you can tell by all the corsets and patent leather that can also be found in their line this season.

Christmas Eve All Year 'Round!

For the past few days I have been anticipating the arrival of my new blowdryer and other random beauty and haircare stuff that I ordered from Drugstore.com last week. According to my UPS tracking code, last night my package of neccesities had arrived in Memphis and has been here since Friday. I instantly knew that I would get it today. Low and behold, I saw those oh so sexy words this morning when I tracked it: Out for Delivery. OOOHHH!!! Aren't those the most orgasmic words a girl with dry, frizzy, air-dryed hair could ever read!!

It was so hard for me to fall asleep last night because I couldn't wait to crack open that box and wash my hair so I could test out my new 'toys'. That feeling I had last night really took me back to mi chica Christmas Eve growing up when I knew that they next morning was Christmas and me and my brother would pratically break each others neck to run to the tree to conquer the gifts the we really didn't deserve. I'll admit it!

Seriously, how did out parents and older family members ever survive without online tracking. The best thing to hit the internet next to online cleareance sections!

Bag Hag Week: Fendi Magic

Fendi Medium Patent Magic Bag, $1,300, Saks

First of all, Fendi has always made me feel magical, but this patent magic bag can make me feel downright invincible if I owned it! Walking through walls? No problem with this bag! Flying by just flapping my arms and pointing my head up to the sky? No problema con Fendi Magic Bag! Make A&E rip up Chris Angel's contract and give a magic show to me, because he can't do what me and my Fendi can do? 100% certainty, although that could be a matter of preference!

Anyway, just looking it at it is making me pull out tricks I use to do in elementary school! The slickness of it is tempting me lick it! Hmmm, do you think it would taste like root beer or hard caramel? Either way, YUM!

Although I said that it would take a miracle to make me consider marriage, I think I need to go ahead and get this out. Fendi, will you marry me! Oh, and this bag can substituite for an engagement ring!

A Big Order of Hot Mess: Meagan Good

I haven't the faintest idea how I missed this train wreck while I was browsing the red carpet arrivals at this past Sunday's MTV Movie Awards! There is just so many nays and WTFs on Ms. Good's body, where do I begin?!

The shoes looks like she got them from Payless and I'm not talking about current Payless of fabolous, yet affordable shoes. No, I am talking Payless from 1995 when they put more plastic in boxes in the shape of shoes than imaginable!

The fishnet stockings....not a good look. Period.

The super short mini strapless dress is too 80s for me. I know the rebirth of 80s fashion is still lingering around many closets, but give me a break and a give Meagan a slap! This dress is just too much.  Based on the outrageous print and tulle, I have a hutch that this might be from Heatherette. Still, Samida doesn't like..........at all!

Meagan has been sporting the same large, personalized bamboo earrings for over two years now. Put them up, Meagan! NOW!! I know, its her thing, but she needs to come up with something new. Want to try something new, try not overdoing trends. Try going sutle for a minute and then maybe you won't complain about always being the "pretty girlfriend". She is a good actress, but horrible dresser!

What do you think?

Bag Hag Week: Hot Pink...the movement!

Hot pink is spreading like a wild fire in California, Georgia, and Florida! First, the thing was hot pink lips. I'm glad that didn't last too long. Then for a minute it was hot pink polish. My toes and I are still enjoying that one! Now, hot pink is a movement and such a movement that it has moved on to bags!

When I first saw Carrie Bradshaw, I mean Sarah Jessica Parker carrying this super bright pink Bottega Veneta bag I instantly thought "How Fab!" and "I want one!"

Its a wonderful and edgier alternative to the use of a red bag that wrote of yesterday! See how Mrs. Matthew Broderick wore s simple grey tee and jeans from her Bitten line, respectively, and spiced it up with a bright pair of yellow shoes and of course the bright Bottega! Some of you might not be feeling the fantabolousness of the color, but I for one do!

Here are some hot pink bags for you to consider:

La Regale Pleated Satin Evening Bag, $20.25, Macy's; Fish Net Handbag, $12.80, Forever 21; Braided-Strap Hobo, $16.60, Old Navy; D&G Dolce & Gabanna Canvas Doctor Bag, $309, Eluxury; Xhilaration Buckle Satchel, $14.99, Target; Seagrass Tote with Faux Patent Trim, $12.99, Target

2007 MTV Movie Awards...Fashion Edition

Last night's MTV Movie Awards were pretty decent... I must say! I even enjoyed the Rihanna performance sans outfit, though! Anyway, usually the dress code for MTV awards red carpet or whatever carpet color they choose is wear what you want. When I say "wear what you want" I mean be as outrageous as you want, but over the past few years that has changed.

Case in point, the barrage of black dresses in the carpet was ridiculous! Where were the barely there outfits. Was Lil' Kim busy or somethin'! Well, as the saying goes; "You can never go wrong with a little black dress!" True, for last night at least. My fav of the LBDs was Cameron Diaz. Super short, so short it could double for a tube top. However, she has the gams and the size for it. I really loved that dress, though! Scantily delicious!

Yay or Nay: Kylie's Dolce Dress

The latest batch of dresses from Dolce & Gabanna have had all these straps and corset tops. This dress is just has so much going on! To be more than honest, the dress wouldn't be that bad if the corset wasn't so sheer. That's just my opinion. Whose to say that the dress wouldn't look better on someone else? The shoes....whole 'nother "Yay or Nay" post! What do you think?

Make-up Bag Hag!!

When I was just a junior high teen dabbling in make-up, I was not a big thing for me to throw my lipstick, black liner and brown liner(that both also doubled as lip liner, bad I know!) and mascara into my little mini backpack and keep it moving. I didn't think that a make-up bag was neccessary. Now things have changed drastically over the past decade. Today, I was changing purses and decided to also change my make-up bag. Change my make-up bag? Is that usual? What happened to day of tossing and going.

Well, I tell you what changed, not being able to create the most compelling and eye catching "blinkers" with just one shadow. Or that I  can only find the perfect shade of peach for my complexion my mixing three different pinks and top it with a sheer peachy gloss. I digress.

Well, on a whim I decided to go through one of the many mini wicker baskets in that hold my make-up bags. Drumroll, please! 31 make-up bags! Is that alot? Yeah it is! I have the usual suspects..Louis mono, Gucci mono, and the simple black Prada. The other consists of a gaggle of random bags that I mostly  bought at Walgreens, Target, and Walmart for the cute factor alone. Back to 31 make-up bags. This. Must. Stop. Now. Well, maybe not now, look at this one:

Trish McEvoy Platinum Petite Planner, $48, Nordstrom

It's so fabolous that its not even called a bag, but a planner! It could double as a little bag! Okay, 32 make-up bags is enough!
