Blot paper, my butt!
I'm sorry, but blot paper doesn't help a bit with 90+ degree heat! I tried dapping on one of those thin little sheets last night, and the shine on my forehead absored the sheet oppose to the sheet absorbing the shine!! Therefore, my little packet of blotting papers are resting comfortably in the bottom of my large make-up case for the rest of the summer and well into the Fall. This heat is not a job for the weak, so in comes the heavy duty make-up adhesive that I have fallen in love with today while I was out for a meeting and interview. Make room in your make-up regimen for BECCA Mattifying Primer.
BECCA Mattifying Primer, $35, Sephora
Seriously, after having an almost verbal fight with this super hot heat this morning, my make-up looked almost as perfect as it did when I left superbly cool home! I think I might have found my summer love!

Worth taking up space on my DVR!
Tommorrow night, Soapnet is premiering a new reality show called The Fashionista Diaries. The show follows six fashionistas have the opportunity to be assistants for three major fashion infused companies: 7 street PR, Flirt! cosmetics, and Jane magazine. All are places that I would cut all my hair off to get! Although the show officially premieres tommorrow night at 9 pm east/8pm central, my DVR whispered that they are going to air it a 5am/4am. Yeah, so search for it, because based on the clip I saw, it looks to be interesting especially if you are into fashion!

Ya Girl is Back...for now!
Unfortunately, the job is not for me! I did not like it as much I would have loved to. Location was great and it took me less than 5 minutes to walk there, but it was not for me. I'll find something else! However, that does mean that I can post more frequently! Yeah, so I am back starting tommorrow!

How to manage and learn more aboutr curly hair
Products Every Curly-Haired Girl Needs
Being partof the curly girl nation, there
are some products you should stay away from that weigh down their hair,
you need a few products to keep frizz and dryness in check:
Creamy shampoos Creamy shampoos are a
better bet than clarifying (or clear) shampoos. Two
types of conditioners You simply cannot overcondition frizzy
hair. You need a heavy conditioner for use every time you wash your
hair, and a deep conditioner for use once a week.
Smoothing cream and alcohol-free gel From
the minute you step out of the shower, you need to coat the cuticle so
it locks out moisture. Styling cream
Enhance your curls with a cream created for curly hair. Rub it in and
let hair airdry. Style serum Warm up a
couple drops of this in your hands and palm over dry, frizzy curls. The
serum will solve your frizz problems. Straightening
balm or gel If you want to blow-dry hair straight, rub a
quarter-size amount of this on hair before drying curly hair (always in
sections, working from the lower layers on up).
Put Away the Blow Dryer
To combat the frizzies, refrain from blowing hair
dry. Adding heat to air only increases the problem. Instead,
finger-comb hair, letting curls air-dry. (Luckily, because your hair
tends to be dry, so you don't need to wash hair more than a couple
times a week). If you must use a blow dryer, use a diffuser and dry by
cupping hair with your hands from below (never scrunch curls, you'll
invite frizz). One tip we learned from a curly haired friend: Don't rub
hair dry with a towel, instead squeeze moisture out with paper towels.
The Less You Mess, the Better
The more you play with your curls, blow drying
them, scrunching them, etc, the better chances you'll get frizz. You
can style hair by twisting curls around your finger, letting them lay
to air dry.
How to Straighten Curly Hair
First apply straightening balm (see above). Divide
hair into four or five sections and blow dry each section using a flat
paddle brush. Once hair is COMPLETELY dry, flat-iron 2-inch sections at
a time. Rub a silicon-based gloss between hands and palm over your
straightened sections. It will help hold the hair in place.
Want Straight Hair for Good? Consider a
Permanent Treatment If you find you flat-iron your
hair almost every time you wash it, you might consider investing in a
permanent hair-relaxing session. Gentle relaxers can last up to six
months and take only about an hour to do. But these are best on
single-processed hair (hair that's not been colored). Thermal
reconditioning is another option. The process takes about four hours
but lasts six to 10 months.
Get the Right
Haircut Curly hair needs length to weigh curls
down. Your best cut will be medium to long, with layers cut in to
alleviate some of the fullness. What you don't want is a blunt cut,
which means a ton of fullness on the bottom -- a very dated look.
Instead, ask for layers starting at your upper lip, gradually angled
back.
Find a Good Stylist
My stylist had curly hair and she went to another
stylist with curly hair to get her hair cut. Why? Because she knew this
stylist understood her hair, her needs and how finicky curly hair can
be. Not everyone agrees with me (some stylists insist anyone can cut
curly hair), but I still stand firm. Source: About.comAnother good site to find out not only how to manage curly
hair, but learn more about the different textures and types is
NaturallyCurly.com.
Its an entire site devoted to curly hair with a strong community filled
with pictures and product recommendations. The first time I found it, I
was there for over an hour just looking around and absorbing SO much
information. Its a bookmark on my
computer!

Curls Week: Kinky-Curly products
So, I have been anxiously anticipating to test my natural
curls out with products from Kinky-Curly. The line
is consisted of natural products for naturally curly hair, right up my
alley..right?! Anyway, this weekend I finally was able to test out
Kinky-Curly's Curling Custard and Knot Today and I am more than happy
to pour out my results. However, before I or you hit the hopeful highway of silky
curls, you have to wash your hair with a good clarifying shampoo to
remove all any residue of products from your hair. Clean slate, ladies!
I used my usual Sauve clarifying shampoo, but the wonderful owner of
Kinky-Curly, Shelley, recommends Prell! Yes, Prell! She says that it
one of the best shampoos to remove waxes ands oils from your via hair
care products. However, Shelley did let me know that any clarifying
shampoo would do, but I do plan on testing out that
Prell!
Back to the curls! After I washed my hair with
shampoo and conditioner I squeezed the access water out of my hair with
my hands, no towel. Read yesterday's post to find out why. After
"finger drying" my hair, I squeezed an overzealous amount of the Knot
Today to my wet hair as a leave-in conditioner. Afterwards,
I finger combed the Curling Custard
(smells like yellow cake mix to
me, coconut to my sister, and baby powder to my mom..feel free
to play that game amongst your
friends) to my hair and proceeded to
let it air dry! After my hair was completely dry, I was left with soft,
WELL definined curls! I can't ever rememeber my curls being so blatantly defined and that frizz-free, seriously! Although you get the best results when using all the products from the line together, they are still equally fabolous alone. The Curling Custard is designed to be used alone, but when
applied after Knot Today it can help in defining and longating your
curls. Knot Today can be used alone as a leave-in conditioner and rinse
out...love multi-use products! Since the containers are quite large,
you really get your money worth!
I applied the Kinky-Curly
products to my hair on Saturday afternoon and 4 days later its
still looking lovely! Next product I am itching to try is the Gloss
Promade as should you along with the other
products! Trust me, you won't regret
it!

Curly Hair Rule: Say 'No" to towels!
Towel drying your hair is a big no-no for curly
hair! Towel drying curly hair brings on nothing but dry and frizzy
curls. Who wants that?!?! No matter how fabolous I think I look and
feel as I wander around the house with my hair wrapped in towel turban,
it was very hard habit for me to break!
Towel drying
your hair causes your curls to turn to frizz and help promote split
ends...not a good thing!
The best way for you to dry
your natural curls is by gently squeezing the water out of your hair
and letting it air dry. In the end
you will be left with frizz-free, luscioius
locks! Stay

Clutch Playa!
Seriously, I have a handbag for any and every
style you can think of, from tote, shoulder, to satchel. Obviously, I
have clutches out the ying yang! However, as I was evaluating my
barrels of bags I notice that I don't have that many if any day
clutches. I have a total of 23 clutches, but all of them are
more evening than night. The closest day one I have is a simple red one
with a thin line of red sequins, but its too small to carry anything
other than my wallet and maybe a pen. Not a good idea for a day clutch.
Therefore, I recently spent a small amount of time sniffing out some
clutches that fit my qualifications of a day clutch. My qualifications,
you ask? Well, I would love to have a nice list of specifics, but all I
really care about is the size. Basically, I want a nice oversized
clutch! Here is what I came up with:
1.
Goldenbleu Mercedes Patent
Clutch, $350, Shopbop; 2.
Hobo International East/West Patent
Clutch, $120, Nordstrom; 3.
Cammie Coco Clutch, $325, eBags; 4. L.A.M.B 'Signature-Carlisle' Convertible Clutch
Tote, $425, Nordstrom; 5.

Clutch, $480, Nordstrom; 7.

Summer Must-Have: Shiseido Accentuating Color Stick
Shiseido Makeup Accentuating Color Stick, $30, Sephora
I have a smoldering hint that this summer is going to be big burning burden for us make-up addicting girls! The best make-up look for summer is light and sheer. My favorite make-up bag item this summer is Shiseisdo Make-up Accentuating Color Stick.
This little stick adds a magnificent sheen and gloss to any color make-up you have on. It can enhance and highlight the color of your eyes, lips, and cheeks. Muy caliente y perfecto! I have been in love with it in Rosy Flush, but for the past week I have been carrying on a torrid affair with it in Bronze Flush. The bronze adds just a touch of sun kisses to your face and body. Gives the impression that you just a nice little jog in the summer heat without all the sweat! Nice!

Color changes, style stays the same!
Kim Kardashian does have a fabulous figure and its obvious that she knows it based on her the style of dress she frequents. Take a look at the dresses she has worn over the past few months and see do you notice anything.
Tight? Check. Cleavage up and out? Yep. Hits knee? Yep. She loves the look of these dresses. I'm not going to lie, the dresses are lovely, however, when you are constantly seen in the same style dress it becomes too much and too boring! I still love her style!
Anyway, if there is a style that ALWAYS flatters your body, would you stick with it despite a chance of boredom among your looks?

A Dress for all occasions!
This afternoon, I decided to take
advantage of a Macy's gift card that has been slowly drifting toward
expiring. Never a good idea when it comes to a gift card,
chicas! Anyway,
Saturday is my little sister's B-Day and I hadn't found anything, yet.
Since I'm still in the process of trying to overcome my addiction to
summer dresses I was automatically drawn to them and felt that she
should jump on board this slow moving train.
Buying a dress for someone other than me
is more difficult than I thought, especially when they are smaller,
younger, and possess such a different lifestyle and
personality that is associated with your
average outgoing teenager. I also have to say that she has
"body"! Chest, hips, and back! However, when you have all that you
better believe that she has parents who are overly concerned with what
she wears! Yeah,
this was difficult! After scratching the mess out of my hair in a rage
of confusion I found a very versatile dress that I thought was muy
perfecto. It was young, yet sophisticated. It was casual, but had all
the ability to be dressed up with a cute little cardigan or blazer.
Most importantly, it was not too revealing! My daddy and stepmother
will defintely appreciate that! Want to see it , well here it
go: Sele Drop-Waisted Charmeuse Dress, $36.75,
Macys Straps wide enough to be able to
wear a supporting bra. Not low cut to keep the girls from popping up.
Drop waist and no A-line to help slim the hips. Loving it!

Best thing next to tweezers
My eyebrow grooming regimen before Saturday evening:
1. Double, triple, quadruple check eyebrow area for any of those little diabolical hairs not within the designated area and tweeze the crap out of them!
2. Brush brows with a brow brush!
3. Take a very light brown liner and fill in the areas of my brows to make them evenly filled
4. Apply a brown powder the same shade as the liner to set the brow.
5. Regret how I never get my eyebrows tinted, instead of going through all the steps to lighten my brow shade.
Well, most of those steps have disappeared thanks to a new product from Anastasia. Say "Thanks a bunch!" to Anastasia Tinted Brow Gel. I journeyed out to the local Sephora Saturday evening with my friend and stumbled across this jewel. It took me back to my freshman year of college when I decided one day to get my brows professionally shaped and tinted. After looking at how fabulous they were I vowed to get them tinted regularly. Well, regularly equaled up to...never again. Money and memory were the main reason, however that problem shouldn't rear its ugly, dark brows ever again as long as this remain on the market.
This little wand of delight erases steps 2-5 while adding a sleek look ALL DAY. Even the evilness know as Memphis' Sunday humid heat couldn't break this stuff off my face. Yet, Lancome' make-up remover did it easily. The appearance of thick, luscious, and well kept brows without all the fuss. Another definite addition to your make-up regimen!

The tale of the traveling tan!
Sugar Travel Tan, $22, Beauty.com
A few weeks ago, a friend of mine sent me one of these little beauty packages that she sends every other blur moon. In this package was a little bronze tube from the Sugar called Travel Tan. I have used Sugar bronze in the past and it did add a smile and glow to my appearance, but I never became addicted to it like I did with Dior's liquid bronze and Clinique's tranluscent powder bronze. However, for the past couple of weeks I have been yanking this tube out of my purse as I do with my lipgloss.
The ability to touch up your bronze sans the loose powder blowing all over you weekday best is a beauty addicts blessing. Yesterday, as I was sitting outside dodging and punching at flies, it was so nice to be able to touch up my bronze everytime a wave of sweat washed over me! This is a definite must have this summer if you want to take your tan on the go. Plus, worry my beautiful black and brown chicas, its a sheer, golden powder so it will work faboulously on all complexions!

My affair with dresses this season continues!
So I hope everyone had a great 4th of July, because I definitely did! I was able stuff my gut with some of that too-delicious-to-be-legal barbeque that Memphis is known for and I wrapped it up while watching the only crime fun to watch in Memphis; fireworks! Yes, it was a fun day, but the best part was the chance that I decided to take in my 4th wardrobe.
For holiday's like this (i.e 4th, Memorial, and Labor Day), I usually opt for a pair of shorts and thin yet fem blouse or tee tipped with flip flops...very redundantly different, I know! This year I dared to be different and decided to wear a dress, but not just any dress my favorite style of dress as of the past couple of weeks, a shirtdress!

The shirt dress is so versatile! You can pair it with a pair of simple pumps and wear them to work or slide on a pair of flip flops and make them ultra casual. However, you can rock them as I have with a pair of leggings(when are they going out of style, by the way?) and a pair flats! Its very chic and young! Here are a few shirt dresses that you might want to try out for your closet!
Orange Floral Shirt Dress, $24.99, Fusion Boutique; INC International Concept Shirtdress, $74.25, Macy's; Lacoste Half Sleeve Stripe Polo Shirtdress, $145, Nordstrom; Three Quarter Sleeve Belted Tunic Dress, $150, Intuition

Yay or Nay: Coquette Dress
Anzevino & Florence Coquette Dress, $88, 80s Purple
This dress is for those daring diva/fashionistas. To be more than honest, I would probably wear this dress, but I wouldn't dress/club it up. I would wear this is as a casual dress with some flip flops or flats, big shades and bag. That's just me!

Magic de Marguerite
For the past couple of weeks I was contemplating taking another skip toward the "Big Chop". For those you unaware of what I am talking about, its that point in you and your hair's relationship when the both of you unanomouisly decide that its time to eliminate all the bad things you have gone through together and start anew. When I say eliminate the bad things I mean chop off all the hair that has been touched by coloring, relaxers, perms...basically, chemicals.
The only chemicals that I have in my hair is some coloring that is still lingering after almost a year. However, if I chop it off I will be cutting off almost half of my hair length. Sorry, but I am just not emotionally strong to take that on again. Therefore, I get my hair trimmed once a month and make sure my ends are WELL MOISTURIZED to prevent severe and diabolical breakage that hair color can do. My latest hair obsession in keeping my hair growing strong and long while it coexhist with color is of course from Carol's Daugther. Its Some of Marguerite's Magic hair dress conditioner. I LUST THIS STUFF! As I patiently wait for the color to be completely trimmed out of my hair, this stuff is allowing me to have soft and healthy natural hair and even occasionally run a curling iron through it without me falling to my knees first and praying that my hair doesn't break from the heat! I'd stock up on this stuff if I was you!
