Eye Spy...Nia Long's silk dress

This weekend, a number of celebs hit the orange carpet to attend the 2008 Nickelodean Kid's Choice Awards. Actress Nia Long attended the event with too cute son while wearing Marc by Marc Jacobs Night Blossom Silk Twill Dress. I love this dress! It looks so comfortable, yet fabulously chic!

Lemon-y Zest to You Spring Looks

A. MICHAEL Michael Kors Paratrooper Trench, $179.50, Nordstrom; B. Nanette Lepore Canvas Bow Jacket, $395, Nordstrom; C. Cropped Downtown Jacket, $47.50, Lulus; D. 2 Pocket Swing Jacket, $17.50, Wet Seal

A while back, one of my bosses, who loves fashion and beauty just as much as yours truly, and I were talking about how we felt that neither of had any spring clothing and each  made individual plans and list of things that we each needed. Despite the age gap and size(she's petite and I'm...not), we each agreed that the one item to acquire is cute, fabulous jacket, preferably yellow!

With all the citrus-y colors everywhere, needless to say, yellow will keep you en vogue, but also add some much needed punch to any boring look....ya'll know I swear by items that do that!

The designer rings continue

Apparently, the world of fashion label inspired phones nowhere near dying down. Levi's is releasing a very limited amount of Levi red tab mobile phones.

Levi released 100 phones that features everything from Bluetooth technology, camera w/flash, and MP3...you know, today's cell phone basics. Since its a limited edition piece, it comes in a premium presentation box that includes a case for the handset, a stereo hands-free kit for calls and music, and a metal change. All that for 549 euros or roughly 867 US dollars. The Levi Mobile Phone is available at Colette.

Glamhead's Guadalupe Stripe Tee

Being part Mexican, mi madre used to try and keep some of her mexican heritage mixed in with all the liberian artifacts of my dad's. One of the main hispanic icons that was very present in my childhood were statues of Guadalupe. So, Glamhead's Guadalupe tee is right up my alley. It doesn't hurt that the colors of the tee match Stained Couture's scheme, ya'll already know how much I love gold, even the foil stuff! This tee is definitely up my alley and soon in my closet!

Victorian Victory

As I was anxiously awaiting for the new season of The Hills to premiere, I decided to do a little shoe browsing considering reruns of Gossip Girl couldn't do it for me. Since I am in a uber feminine mood hence the weather and girly shows, these Victorian pumps from Prada tickled my fancy and ruffled my feathers.

Black Patented Approved

I'm not the biggest fan of black patent leather anything in the warmer days of the year, but this Jimmy Choo patent tote caught my eye. Maybe, it's the fact that it reminds of the colorful irridescent on a bubble or a rain puddle capturing the reflection of a rainbow, either way...I love it.

Tee Time...The Freshnes' Chicks&Kicks

Yesterday was payday and although I have sworn and started to put money aside to save up for a new laptop, I did do a mini splurge and copped a pair of new sneaks. For a girl who has spent the past couple of years investing and evolving into a heels or bust shopping mentality, I have been opting for colorful sneakers instead of classic pumps and heels.

Well, to conincide with my kicks addiction, I have also been swooning and sometimes scoring feminine, yet edgy tees to compliment them. Needless to say or point out, but this The Freshnes Chicks&Kicks tee is calling me! I think I might have to answer.

Online vs. In person

I know I am not the only one who has ordered something online or from a catalog, based on the image, but was let down when the item finally came and the color was not what you expected. It was either too bright, too light, not the right hue you were expecting, etc.. Then you were left to put your frustration/disappointment/anger to the side to send it back or put in your closet in hopes that one day you will get your money's worth and actually wear it one day.

Well, as a retail website manager, that is one thing that I have always had a problem with and I have been a retail web manager for clothing, accesories, and flag stores and I have always had to deal with customers calling and emailing about how they are unhappy with their final product due to it not looking the way it did online.

So, here are a couple of things to keep in mind when you are looking for something in a certain color while catalog or online shopping:

  • Understand that the majority of all images, especially for retail purposes, use lighting to help show the details more than the color. Lighting softens the original color and sometimes even the best graphic department can't re-create the original color. More than likely, the color is darker than shown.
  • Products that are featured in a "pictorialized" photo are less likely the original color, because a retail pic can be heavily airbrushed to make the clothing and/or product stand out from the model. When styling a photo shoot, in person the clothing might stand out, but not so much when it goes to print. Enter, photo editors and graphic departments.
  • When you see a product that you like, google it and see if other sites have the same product, but different picture examples and do some comparison. If they are too different and you can't get an idea of the actually color, rethink if you really want to take a chance.
  • White background>model. Like I mentioned above modeled products are hardly true to color. So, if you have a picture of a modeled bag or the same bag with an all white background....more than likely the white background is truer to color.
  • In person always beats online or in print. I understand that where you live, you might not have access to some of the major department stores. Hell, I live here in Memphis and we don't even have a Nordstrom. So, I definitely understand if you can't go to see the item in person, but if you can...do! duh!

I hope these very few pointers stick in your mind the next time you are online or catalog shopping.

Macrame' Gladiators

Just when I was starting to warm up to the possible thought of scoring an inexspensive pair of gladiator sandals,I had to see these Jean Paul Gaultier gladiator sandals to make think otherwise. They are constructed with calf leather covered with macrame', oversize buckles, and a back zipper. Too much for me! How about you?

Yeah...I think I am going to refrain from the tall gladiator sandals.

Atonement+Spring= Romantice wardobes and a GIVEAWAY!

This time of year, single or strapped to someone, my closet and I are in full romantic mode due to the abundance of billowy fabrics, uber feminine details of satin and lace, and the fact that flowers bloomed on almost everything from accessories to unmentionables.

This weekend between all the collegiate BBall, stress of my dying laptop, and trying to figure out my new cell phone, I was able to catch a wind and some time to screen my advance copy of the hugely award nominated and winner Atonement. I actually saw the movie in the theatre and was instantly wrapped up in the true love story. However, this weekend, I was all about the ambience and the fashion elements that helped show the romantic theme of the movie and this season.

Jimmy...ooohhh!!

These Jimmy Choo Elm Water Snake Pumps are over-the-top gaudy, but I am having a major goldrush for them. The gold, the sky-high detailed heel, and the zipper in the back....LOVING THEM! These pumps are so fierce, you could go without a pedicure and nobody would care because they would be too blinded by the gold snakeskin. Their only flaw in my eye is the whopping $920 price tag! Who does a girl have to threaten to get that to go down a few notches?

BTW, these look very egyptian to me! Still love them!

It's all about the jelly flats this spring and summer, because Marc Jacobs and Gucci have eached released some and now my lover Fendi have released a couple of pair called Fendi Halter Jelly that come in spring/summer worthy fuschia and sleek, but edgy smoke, and the always go to white.

The jellies feature the B buckle design and goldtone details. Not to mention, that you can remove the ankle strap for true flats, but the ankle strap would look fab with skirts and shorts. Either way, ladies, we must go shopping for some jelly flats...ya' think?!

Saturday Interrupted & Sexy Canvas

My laptop is in CPR due to a Windows upgrade that went bad...its like someone going into surgery to repair something, but the doctor hit some unexpected "turbulence". So, since I need my computer to take to work, I worked from home today using the big desktop hooked up to the printer. Kinda of weird, but luckily there was fridge full of green tea and tele full of college b-ball!

To had insult to injury, this Saturday, my crew and I were planning to celebrate the first burst of warm air by partaking in manis and pedis and shoe shopping for cute sandals to show off our shiny tip toes. However, I plan to take my baby to a computer repair shop and sit, shaking and praying that all my important info is not lost forever in the technology graveyard.

So, to lift my spirits, I went browsing for something visually beautiful to lift my gloom and these Bruno Frisoni platforms with straw bows did the uber trick. I haven't been this into canvas since my senior year of college I use to paint has a hobby to counteract the stress of senioritis! Who would have thought canvas could look so damn sexy, but I guess those 4 1/2 inch patent leather stilletos don't hurt!

After spotting this unexpected dose of sexy canvas; the crew have decided to celebrate on Sunday and my Tigers are playing tonight, with on biggest threat of the conference getting beat like they stole something by a lower seed. I love March Madness...and these platforms!

Sweaty Ankles from Jeffrey Campbell

We are almost a week away from the first day of spring and the weather, but today's Memphis forecast, which calls for a high of 71 degrees, has me in the mood for sandal shopping! When I think of sandals, I think of a shoe that will let my feet and legs and enjoy the spring breeze. However, if it were up to Jeffrey Campbell, my ankles and lower calves deserve to be suffocated all year long thanks to his Jaya sandals.

Jeffrey Campbel makes some ridiculously cute and chic shoes, especially sandals. However, these sandals, which look like a hybrid of a boot and a gladiator sandal, don't do it for me. There is 6" of leather from the top of the arch of your foot to the top of the boot/sandal. That is too much leather to be smothering anyone's ankle in the warmer months. Not thanks, Jeff.

My new bag buddies!

Seriously, there is nothing I hate more than having to collect and tote a gaggle of "maintence" products to keep me glowing throughout the day. Aside from make-up, I am also carrying lotion, cuticle cream and, chap stick among other things. Well, those three things have been squeezed down to one thick, but small tube thanks to Woltra Cocoa Butter and Vitamin E sticks.

I bought them on a whim while strolling through Kroger looking for a cuticle stick, because I left mine at home. I just assumed it would be interesting thing to keep around in case of emergency. However, it has turned into my desk staple at work. I usually carry only the Cocoa Butter stick, but when my lips are going through that cracking-peeling-while-making-me-look-extra-ashy phase, I toss the Vitamin E stick in my bag. Either way, the easy application makes it great to use as a instant resolution to chapped lips and giving my hands two good swipes of it softens my hands and leaves enough for me to rub and soften my cuticles. These are a just really easy to grabs to have in your bag, especially in the sweltering heat that will soon probably partake in a town near you. Can you believe its was 60 degrees here in Memphis, considering we just had a snow storm in Friday. There isn't a trace of snow left. Mother Nature...that cracy chick!!

Vegan Queen: Eco-Luxury, Eco-Friendly, and Eco-Fab

Thanks to the fact that I have roommate who ADORES fashion, but is also very eco-friendly...eco-fab! She has really been stuffing her closet with various plenty of the eco-friendly pieces that have been showing up in record form in and on various stores. One line that is not only eco-frinedly, but eco-fab and eco-luxury are Vegan Queen bags.

Vegan Queen bags are not only eco-friendly, but also organic, non-toxic, and cruelty free. All that and still fabulous!! My favorites are the the Eco IT bags and the Diamond clutches. To see and hopefully grab one for yourself, then visit Vegan Queen's online boutique.

Cork Covered Shoes: The New Nude?

Everyone woman should have by now at least one cork heel shoe, be it kitten, high, or wedge heel. Last year, the nude pump was added to the "Must-have" shoes list. So, everyone scooped a pair. I have two pair; one flat and one high. Although a nude pump will probably never go out of style again, one trend that is bound to cut into its glory this spring and summer is the array of cork covered shoes.

Shoes with not only cork heels, but cork uppers have been popping up in some of your favorite shoe shopping dwellings. You have to admit that its a nice addition to the season and its probably one of the most nuetral shoes you can have in your closet. Depending on the style, you will be able to wear a pair from the weekend to the work week and from the office to the after hours. Below are some very worth-while cork shoes that you might want to look into adding to your spring and summer looks!

A. Christian Louboutin Africa Queen Cork Sandal, $775, Saks; B. Donald J Pliner 'Naiya' Sandal, $290, Nordstrom; C. Maison Martin Margiela Cork Pump, $545, eLuxury; D. Marc by Marc Jacobs Cork Ballet Flats, $270, Saks; E. Stuart Weitzman Cork Open Toe Pump, $285, Saks

If the 'real deal' shoes above are too much of a pull on you purse string, then Payless as a cork print shoe for under 20 bucks! So, everyone can afford to try this trend out.

Cute shoes, cute names, Nanette Lepore!

Sooooo, I was browsing around Saks.com trying to come up with some ideas for what my spring/summer wardrobe should feature. I saw these really cute pink sandals that were gladitor style with a big pink bow over the toe. "How cute!" I said, but what was cuter were the rest of the names the names for the other Nanette Lepore shoes. My obession, the pink gladitor with the pink bows were called Bad Girl Bow Heels, a pair of sexy chic black patent leather pumps called I'm Not Your Baby Heels, some adorable metallic bow flats called Hot And Bothered Flats, and a great pair of "go-to" slings for spring and summer affectionately and appropriately called Kiss Me Kitten Slingbacks. They are all on pre-order now at Saks!

My Perfect Prom Clutch...9 years too late!

My senior prom all the way back in 1999 was very memorable, in terms of my clothing. I loved my dress, it was a deep blue knee length dress and the empire waist was embellished with white and navy rhinestone. My shoes were a simple, yet very strappy silver heels and my bags was a silver clutch and the clasp was big deep blue stone. Out of everything, I loved that clutch as did everyone how had the chance for me to shake in their face. Unfortanately, at the end of the night or should I saw the beginning of the next morning, my clutch and I were no longer together. I believe we got seperated somewhere between the hotel the prom was held while I was dancing and enjoying the night or when my group and I went partying and drinking...I mean partying on Beale Street. Either way, it was not the way I wanted to loose a fabulous party bag. That's the thing about clutches, they can be so hard to hold and or keep and eye on for an entire evening of partying and enjoying life.

Yesterday, my little sis was invited to the prom by a guy I fondly call "that dude." So, she is over the moon and in full swing in trying to scoop out a prom look. Either way, I am going to try and get her one of these gorgeous little clutches from Accessory Bug. Not only are they fabulous, but that come attached with a dazzling bracelet that can allow you to hold on to it all..night...long without the possibility of having it disappear into the deep blue night! They come in bronze, gold, silver, champagne, purple, and my favorite, pink. Plus, you can get 10% off with the code spring08 by 4/30/2008. Where were these in May of 1999?!

Muy Maria Bonita

Silver stars...the one item I used to hate to see as a second grader, because I always felt that I always deserved a gold star...at everything!!! That damn Ms. Crawford!  There is nothing more dangerous to the world than an over ambitious 6 year old. However, 20 years, a bunch of self-imposed under achievements (AKA laziness), and more than enough servings of maturity, I no longer cringe at silver stars. Case in point; these Maria Bonita Extra Silver Star Platforms are too cute and can make me completely forget about those undeserved silver stars...well, maybe not completely. Still, cute shoes.

Seriously, Marc!?!?

Ya'll know I love me some Marc Jacobs, Lord knows I do, but this dress has me seriously tempting to blow out one of the candles on my Marc Jacobs shrine. The style is very different and unique, but not me. However, what had me refresh my page 10x to make sure it wasn't a typo was the price for this "dress". Over $1,500!!! So, I have to ask; Marc....seriously?

“Her style is glamorous and represents the fun and whimsical spirit of our brand.”

Well, the campaign kicks off this month and will feature the emerging fashionista's face on billboards, print campaigns, and other venues.

Blog 2 Watch...The Course Hair Diary

Fortunately, I don't have technical course hair. However, since my hair is chemical free and naturally curly, when its dry it does give the appearance of course hair. Now that the cold weather is preparing to pack up its gloom and be replaced by warmth and sunshine, I am starting to wear my hair down in all its natural kinks and curls. So, I have been snooping for more info on products to use, which lead me to a wonderful blog blatantly called The Course Hair Blog.

Yesterday, I spent almost an hour trying to play catch up with the other frequent readers. The more than likely fabulous writer for the blog, Belle Chevuex, features everything from explaining alopecia to the difference between moisture and protien products and answering reader mail in between. Plus, you can view her Fotki pics. BTW, nothing can motive you more to maintain and/or grow you hair than viewing peeps Fotki hair photos. That's what did it for me and my hair is now down to the middle of my back...when its straighten of course!

A Tribute For All Occasions

Once again, YSL has released another 'trinbute' to the fashion masses in the form of a canvas and leopard print pump appropriately titled the Yves Saint Laurent Canvas Leopard Pump. In this case, I am not mentioning this shoe, because of who has been seen in them, but more so the versatility. You would think that when you have a canvas and leopard print shoe, your style and look options woulf be limited to basic colors and casual looks. Although Erykah did go casual with the shoes, Eva Longoria and Jada Pinkett Smith were able to pull the shoes off in a cocktail style with a shimmery silver dress and black and white tuxedo style pieces. Gotta love a shoe that can take you more than  one place and one style!

Made for a man, cute enough for a woman

Since I am apparently on a serious cute kicks hunt, I am finding  that more and more shoes that are made for males are appealing to me. Gone are the days of the certain colors and styles being singled out to guys and girls and hello to the days of a melting pot that doesn't doesn't have a clear line.

These Supra limited edition white skytops are ridiculously fab, but they are made for guys. Yet, I love them and they would fab with some khaki chino short shorts and white tank. Hell, they're white...they could go with any and everything! Its been a minute since I bought a guy shoe for me and I can't remember what size I wear in guys. However, these shoes are definitely worth finding out!
