My morning has been Craz-aaayyyy!! Stressful and soothing and its just 10 a.m! As usual, to knock some stess off my heart and mind, I did a little online window shopping. One of my first stops was Topshop. I love them and their cute, chic, and affordable clothes. So, needless to say that when I saw that they had a collection called Memphis, which is where I was born and raised, I was stoked. Well, after taking a look, I was completed outraged that this what their fashion interpretation of Memphis.
This looks like a stereotypical image of the New Mexico/Texas area, not Memphis! Don't get me wrong, some of the items are cute, but not a reflection of the fashion of Memphis. Here is how they described the collection:
"Take a trip to Memphis - America's Deep South - as splatter bleached denim, feather print tunics and slashed tees are infused with ethnic nuances. Pale jeans and oversized dresses are given a hand crafted feel with Mexican style embroidered trims, while cowboy shirts are strewn with stud work. With a nod to Rodeo styling, cropped jackets appear in lilac and marine-blue suede and shrunken waistcoats are adorned with folkloric prints. Leather satchels, studded heels and boots with tasselled laces finish off the Memphis look."
Ummm....No. If I see some splatter print denim, i'm going off.
Depending on what part of the city you live depends on the fashion sense. If you live in East Memphis/Germantown/Cordova, you will see an American Eagle/Hollister/ trendy look. In Whitehaven/South Memphis/North Memphis its very hood fab! Basically, like with every major big city, Memphis is a melting pot of style, but this Topshop collection is way off! Do your researching next time, Topshop! I'm so disappointed!
Stay Stylish!
